Update 9/8/02

This is it.  It is not a specific meeting to stop Manatee Pit, but it is the final hearing for a new mining ordinance that will place a 2 mile buffer around Manatee Springs State Park and Fanning Springs State Park as well as more stringent criteria for mining and a buffer around subdivisions.

If it passes as it stands today, there will not be a Manatee Pit.  I have been told by two commissioners that supported us that the more we have there in support, the more likely it is to pass.

Our opinion is that it is going to pass, as they voted 4-1 (I was wrong, the chairman voted for the moratorium) for the stay on accepting applications.  Since we only need a 3-2 to win, I think it is likely.  We would appreciate any bodies that you can get to Bronson, but understand that it is a very long drive for a week night.  We are going door to door in the neighborhood and renting a bus to get folks there from Chiefland and Williston.

In the event it does not pass and Mr. White comes to the county with his application, then we need to get so many folks there that we have to move to the High School Gymnasium (it happened once for a dairy in the middle of a residential area).
