Update 9/3/02

Hello,

We had a small victory today with the Levy County Commission.  White Construction has been drilling and moving the drag line around on the  property and has approached the county regarding re-submitting the mining application prior to the adoption of new mining regulations. The new regulations place a 2 mile buffer around Manatee Springs and Fanning Springs State Parks.  They also have a 1/4 mile buffer around subdivisions.  With these limitations there is no where on the"manatee" property that Mr. White can make his mine.

After being supplied with a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision regarding moratoria when regulations are being created or amended, the Commissioners voted to place a four week moratorium on accepting mining applications.

The hearing for adoption or denial of the new regulations will be held on September 17th.  Since three of the commissioners voted for the moratorium today, we are hoping that three will vote in the new regulations on the 17th!

Just updating you on the status of Manatee Pit.
