The next workshop to change the Land Development Regulations regarding mining in Levy County will be July 2 @ 6.00pm in the Levy County Courthouse in Bronson.

Everyone is urged to attend if possible. Some of the large landowners will be there in vocal opposition to these new proposed changes. It is important that we have a large contingent there to show the county commision how strongly we all feel.

If passed these new regulations would prevent limerock mines within a 2 mile radius on any platted subdivision of 5 acres or less. They would also be prohibited within 3 miles of a state, county or city park, school or hospital.

Limerock Industries is still trying with DEP to get their permit for Manatee Pit. If appoved this limerock mine would be less then 3 miles from Manatee Spring.  The date for issuance/denial is June 30. Assuming they do not ask for another "timeclock extension", something they have already done twice.
